My 6yo daughters best friend Greg was diagnosed with ALL Luekemia when he was 4. It was horrible news for him and his family that this cute little red-headed smiling boy was so sick. Thankfully they were able to treat it and 2 years later he is in remission.
But to make matters worse 4 months after Greg was diagnosed his Dad was diagnosed with lung cancer that had metastised into a brain tumor. And again thankfully it has all been treated and he is also in remission.
But with Greg being a child and living with a life threatening disease he qualifies for Make-A-Wish. They have decided to go to DisneyWorld. But Make-A-Wish relies on generous donations from everyone that is willing and able to help. These “wishes” are very expensive and I would be thrilled to be able to donate the $500 top prize to Make-A-Wish in Gregs name.
Thank you for a wonderful giveaway and may your daughters continue to thrive after such a very horrible time in all of your lives.

I would like to win because I think that the ST. Judes Cancer center for children is a really great charity. I try to donate to them sometimes but most of the time I can’t afford it. I think that it is wonderful that those children get a second chance at life. Those children have hearts of gold. Please consider them for the donation. Thanks.

when ipods first came out I won one from a contest my son was 7. I didn’t think he would want an ipod. I wasn’t into that at that time. So I sold it on ebay. BIG!!!Mistake. Now thats all I hear .Why did you sell it. He’s now 13 and i wish I would of never done that. Regrets of a mom.

DEBIJOT

My younger brother and sister were diagnosed with juvenile diabetes at the ages of 5 and 16. My other sister’s daughter found out she had diabetes her 1st year at UNC. This has always been my choice of charities since it has hit so close to home. Hopefully one day soon a cure will be found. In the meantime any contribution will make a difference. Have a blessed day.

Christina

I volunteer for the boys and girls clubs nd care about children.

My favorite charity to give to is a Men’s shelter here in Ottawa. It is called Jericho Road. The guys there are for the most part suffering from Mental Disorders (mostly schizophrenia). My brother also has schizophrenia, so this cause is near and dear to my heart. There is one guy at the shelter (We’ll call him Hal) and Hal is the sweetest most helpful guy you will ever know. When anything needs to be done at the shelter, Hal is there (always smiling). But the reality is that if Hal was not in this home, he wouldn’t be doing well. He would forget his pills, and be on the streets very quickly. This shelter is his lifeline…

BenSpark

The charity that I would give to is the Relay for Life. I am personally selling Photo-A-Day Calendars to donate the entire amount I get from each of them to that charity. $500 would be great to go to that charity.

Dhadha

I would like to win since I want to give my winnings to the charity I love — I know it will be a “perfect” Christmas gift for them. Well, I would definitely give the Cash Prize to Bantay Bata — Philippines, a child welfare program of ABS-CBN Foundation that not only rescues and rehabilitates sick and abused children, but also provides shelter, therapy and quality home care for rescued children until they can be reunited with their families or referred to proper child-caring agencies. Bantay Bata is the most widely supported cause in the Philippines for Filipinos around the world. I know with this huge money, I know a lot of kids will benefit and will be happy! (:

Btw, I blogged your contest at my blog. I am spreading the good news to everyone! LOL. Here’s the url: http://i-heart-contest.com/2008/12/21/blog-contest-pay-it-forward

Advance Merry Christmas! This contest is really great! More power! (:

Gian

I’d like to win because charity makes our heart beats healthier.

In an effort to get creative, I made a little poem (to earn extra credit- I also postd about this contest in my blog 🙂

when you’re feeling down and blue
helping others is the thing to do

making a difference and giving your heart
makes others happy and ready to do their part

Give a smile, hug, or donate something
there’s no limit to the help you can bring!

Jim

Came across this from charitymojo.com, it’s a very wonderful thing you are doing. Best of luck to you all.

ES

I should win because I will be giving to a charity which helps many people internationally.

shugah

hi ive heard your contest from a blogger friend.
since the prize will go to our chosen charity( if ill win) i think this is the great opportunity that i can be able to help a group. its the HAPPY HOMES foundation in Maramag Bukidnon Philippines. it is a psychiatric clinic and rehabilitation center. it is run by nuns and some religious group. every Christmas my parents will visit them together with their group. (The Charismatic Group. ) it is a guilty pleasure to help . and in return seeing them really happy because youve helped them. seeing their brilliant smiles is a very-heart-tearing momentum.i chose this charity because. i love to help them. i want to make them happy. as a student i couldn’t really help them on my own. because i don’t have a cash. this contest really a great opportunity for me to really look after to. i want to win seriously. and Godbless you all!

I’ve been working with the American Diabetes Association for around 3 years now to provide funding toward diabetes research. My family has a history of diabetes and it’s effected my greatly. I’m reminded daily of the effects of diabetes considering my grandmother had a severe case of diabetes before she passed away. One of my aunts had recently been diagnosed with diabetes and it scares me to see how quickly it has spread in my family. I hope to be able to contribute funds to the ADA because one day I hope to see a cure for this deadly disease.

I wrote about your contest here: http://www.dailydollarreport.com/stumbleupon-blog-contest/

AhTim

Hi Lee,Glad to know that your beautiful daughters come back healthy.

Why the prize should deserve for me? I want to sponsor children via World Vision org. With $500, I could sponsor up to 14.2 children for one month($35 each). Of course we can’t find 0.2 child. I willing to come out my own pocket money to round up to 15 children.

Recession shouldn’t stop me to donate for charity. I hope to win the prize and help someone really needed.

Paid It Forward too. Spread the good news. Later, I’ll publish a post in my blog too.

–blog for dream–

I never did charity before, honestly!
But, I did (indirectly) through ppp or this kind of programs. But I am very keen to do it directly (i mean, if I directly can inspect how my donation is properly used for good)….You can say, It’s one of my DREAM. I like to do something for needy children! Free food, Free education and lots more.. My blog is going start a project soon on ‘Charity For Education & Building Career’……..It’s may be my luck that I came across this blog and contest.
Thanks.

My Name In Arabic

Since it’s the girls who are selecting the potential winners, I am going to bribe them.

Hey princesses, wanna see your names in beautiful Arabic calligraphy? I mean in a beautiful script that looks like a drawing? Well, just ask! [Mention this contest so that I take your request first, for free!]

Now why I deserve to win, is that because I like sharing too, my blog being the proof; although I don’t always have enough time.

Jason

I’d like to thank you. People like you, who are willing to take a little time and money and give to charity make this world more comfortable to live in.

I too give to charity, but currently cannot give much. I quite my computers career (10+ years) in order to go back to school. We are not almost broke and still have till September before teachers start working. I’ll have my degree in June and hope to work over the summer. I still do volunteer work, when I can and donate stuff we no longer need to various charities.

An Ipod would be cool to have, but the real prize would be in knowing that I was the one that convinced you where to send the money. There are so many needy charities out there but I think I would choose (http://www.preventchildabuse.org/) Prevent Child Abuse America.

Jason

I posted about you on my contest database: http://contestfarm.com/contests/59. I also gave you a free featured listing cause I like your contest. Not that it will do a lot of good, it is a brand new site. I am working on driving traffic there, though.

Again, thanks for the contest.

I’m not sure if I am the most deserving but I thought I should share with you some of my experiences with giving:

I was 16 and had just gotten my first job working the summer as part of a youth group beautifying the city. My group was at the community center and we were working on replanting new flowers. Every day in the morning an old, feeble, hunched-back lady would come riding in on her bike. She would make her rounds picking through the trash for cans which she carefully put into the plastic bags on her bike handles. She never minded the fact that some of the kids snickered at her whenever she came by.
After watching her a few days an idea came into my head. And when I finally cashed my first paycheck I executed my idea.
I was nervous and excited all in one that morning at work. Nervous because I was painstakingly shy. When the old lady came by that morning I muster up some guts and walked up to her. I managed a feeble hello and told her “This is for you,” as I handed her a $5 bill.
Seriously it was only $5, but you would have thought I handed her a million dollars the way she lit up.
She thanked me profusely. And pulled out a recent article to share with me. It was from the local adult school newspaper. The article was a complete story of how she was picked as one of the students of the year. Her history of growing up in Vietnam in the and her immigration to America and ultimately her success at the adult school.
I will never forget the old lady’s smile or the way she lit up. It is ultimately what fueled me to continue giving and sharing.

*******

A Funny Story on Sharing:

My youngest brother is also very giving. When he was little (I think 5 or 6) someone gave him a $1 bill. He ran up to me and tore the bill and gave me one half. He proudly said, “Now we both have 50 cents.”

******

One last thing to share. This is one of my all time favorite article- especially since it’s from one of the local towns near me. The article was printed last year shortly after Christmas:

Why I think my charity should win this contest……. I have a nephew who was diagnosed with Autism. I hoped that a cure would be found for it sooner rather than later. All the dietary treatments and other ideas have not worked. I would hope that more research funding would go into Autism and the treatment of Autism. Apparently according to government funding reports more money goes into research on Huntingtons Disease and not autism but more and more people are being diagnosed with Autism. I would want my donation to go the National Alliance for Autism Research. We need to find a cure for autism or the cause and that is what this organization funds.

janelle

blogged it here: http://contest-love.blogspot.com/2008/12/blog-contest-pay-it-forward.html

like the others, i do not know if i’m that deserving to win. but i’m very sure that all our charities are all deserving to be chosen.

if i win the contest, i want to the charity prize to be split into halves. the first half will go to Philippine National Red Cross while the other half to GMA Kapuso Foundation.

Why Philippine National Red Cross?
I’m a nursing student in FEU and a member of the RCYC (Red Cross Youth Council) organization. Our org is one of the many PNRC (Philippine National Red Cross) volunteers. Unfortunately, I’m not part of any volunteer work in the org for we (me and my friends) have chosen to be on the Public Relations department rather than field work.

Leaving my membership aside, PNRC really helped us particularly in the incident wherein my grandmother needed 5 bags of blood for her operation. PNRC has a blood bank and in this blood bank you can trade any blood type for the matching blood type that you need. If PNRC does not offer that kind of service, I wonder where will we get the matching blood types of my grandmother. Yes, in the family unfortunately we’re a family of anemics. Only a healthy person is eligible to donate.

To sum it all up, I have chosen PNRC because I am a member of a youth council under it and as thanks for helping us then.

Why GMA Kapuso Foundation?
GMA Kapuso Foundation is a foundation owned by one of the leading networks in the Philippines, GMA Network. Most of the works of GMA Kapuso Foundation are being aired in the news program 24-Oras of GMA Network. I’ve watched some of it and I’m pretty happy with what they’ve done for they are really reaching out in the remote places in the Philippines. Though they’re already affiliated with big names, sponsors and donors, I still want to reach out with them simply because they seem to be true to what they’re doing. That what they does is to reach out and help and not simply to gain publicity.

gawd… i’m in tears while i’m writing this.

Amy

Thank you for sponsoring such a wonderful contest!

I am the program director of a Big Brothers Big Sisters chapter in New Mexico. I searched “win money for your charity” online this morning because I am facing the challenging task of raising $10,000 for our program in a small town struggling with recent layoffs.

I am touched that you are giving in honor of your daughters. By choosing to give back to Big Brothers Big Sisters, you will be helping children who need positive adult role models in their lives. Some of these children have parents in prison, or a father or mother who abandoned them, and they just want someone who cares. We connect them with volunteers who generously offer to be their “big brother” or “big sister.” It really means the world to them!

I sincerely hope that you will consider giving to this important cause. Thank you!

Came upon this nicely crafted thought turned into action, with the help of money that you are sharing with those that need it and deserve it, while I was searching for how to network my blog. I finally had the courage to share things I had kept secret from a few people who have probably known me the longest and, might have thought, the best.

Things have been tough the past few years but I have survived and will survive, “the best of times and the worst of times…” which is my current facebook status. I will never forget dropping out of University of Penn and then leaving one semester unfinished because of my grandmother’s death…yet, I will take these as lessons learned because without living, you don’t learn. Hold tight to your dreams is the message I want to live and breathe, to make it come alive so I can say to others sincerely and strongly…Never Ever Give Up.

This is a poem that I wrote on December 18th…and it applies to me, my life and what I am fighting for or aim for…however you want to describe it. My charity will most likely be the ProgressiveU website blogging commonplace that has helped me make my time blogging invaluable and priceless.

What I Want
—-

I can not be human

I can not live the way they lived

I can not love secretly

I can not be me

I can not breathe freely

I can not speak passionately

I can not hate on hate

I can not call it as I see it

I can not tell it as it is

I can not be remembered

I can not be loved

I can not be missed

I can not be innocent

I can not be an un-corrupted version of me

I want to be a compassionate human, as ones passed, in present memory

I want to live like they lived on, in hearts eternally

I want to fly freely and reach heights, not unheard of

I want to love openly unconciously, breathe unthinkingly

I want to let the heart race to unhealthy speeds, courting death lovingly

I want to mouth words to freely honor memories of loved, and shame living dead

I want to hate hate, without trying to forget love drives out hate

I want to preach others to love, unconditionally

I want to teach kids being purple is to live, beautifully

I want to open doors that are locked, since centuries

I want to enjoy me jaded and to share it, guilt-free

I want to curse at those that hatefully curse, loudly

I want to live happily as this me, that is contradictory

I want to see all that is for me to see, as a human

I want those that love me to kiss me, worry-free

I want the ones who miss me to send love to me, not cheaply

I want those that I remember to remember to hug me, warmly

Karl Staib - Work Happy Now

I would like to win because every dog and cat needs a good home. I wish I could adopt everyone of those panting, tail wagging and sad eye giving puppies, but we don’t have the room.

Dogs are the perfect creatures. They are loyal and caring. My dog recently curled up into me as I was laying on the floor. I gave her a big hug and thanked her for being so lovable.

What a great idea for a blog contest! Good luck to everyone else. I bet all these charities are worthy of winning.

Kevin

We have a small charity that helps the poor kids in the southern Philippines. Many live in poverty and do not have enough to eat. This impacts their education as it’s hard to learn when you’re hungry. As a teacher, this changed my outlook on life and I decided to help these kids by creating a nonprofit organization.

This year we could only help one family with food. I believe it made a big difference in their lives for the Christmas season. When I was there last summer, I tried to help by teaching science lessons as they have never had a science lab before. I also bought some lights for the family so the kids could study after dark. If we win this contest, 100% of the money will go directly to the students for food and some to their school to make sure they have lunch and books to help them learn their lesson and continue with their education.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Nearly 10,000 people in Zimbabwe contracted cholera last month and hundreds have died from it. It’s spreading fast for one reason: lack of clean water. The world water crisis is growing at enormous rates. It’s estimated that 1.1 billion people in the world don’t have access to clean water and in developing countries contaminated water accounts for 80% off all diseases.

Could this problem be solved with old bicycle parts and some low-cost supplies from a hardware store? Hydromissions believes so. Hydromissions (www.Hydromissions.com)was founded in 2003 by a South Carolina couple. Using 100-year-old encyclopedias for inspiration, they have invented low-cost ways to build water pumps. The supplies can fit into two backpacks and the pumps can easily be maintained with a few basic tools. Since 2003, Hydromissions has been bringing this low-tech solution to tribes and communities in dozens of countries. There’s no telling how many people now have access to clean water because of Hydromissions.

Last summer my husband and I rode 2286 miles on Vespa scooters to spread the word about Hydromissions and the world water crisis through an event we called 2 Wheels 4 Water. Read about our trip at http://www.2wheels4water.com. We believe in this cause because most Americans will never know what it’s like to battle for clean water.

Solving this huge problem doesn’t have to be complicated. Hydromissions has proven that. There are many charities worthy of your prize winnings, but we believe that a resource like clean water should be available for everyone. Because Hydromissions’ methods are so low cost, your money would go a long way and help many people.

Thank you,
Alison

Thank you for the wonderful idea of helping a worthy cause!

I would like to nominate Tucson’s Community Diaper Bank – the first Diaper Bank in the world, dedicated to providing diapers to babies, and incontinence supplies to older folks.

Because diapers are expensive, and federal / state programs to help the poor do not cover diapers (Food Stamps, Medicare, etc.), many individuals go without diapers, or have a baby stay in the same diaper for days at a time.

Moms cannot leave a baby at daycare without disposable diapers (required by most daycares) so many moms who can’t afford diapers cannot work. Older folks who can’t afford “diapers” don’t leave their homes for months at a time.

The diaper bank not only provides diapers, it raises awareness of these issues, and is working to make our community a place that will hopefully some day not need a diaper bank – a place where everyone has the basic things they need to live.

I appreciate your considering this very worthy cause!

I think you have a great idea and I hope it all works out for you and your family. Not having a whole lot of $$$ at any one time, me and my man generally do the small acts of kindness as often as we can. Have a safe and prosperous new year. 🙂

I used to teach young children out of town as far as Bataan for our college CWTS classes in UP. This opened my mind to the real world out there – no food, no education, no comfort. Having experienced sincere satisfaction every time I teach there, I thought it would be nice if there could be a better way to help aside from those that only we, students, can offer.

There, I’m not familiar with any charities, but I’d have that those money go to a charity opting for education of the our less fortunate countrymen.

Paid it forward.

Blogging Contests

Hi,

Thank you for the opportunity to enter this great and unselfish contest. I blogged about it at http://www.bloggingcontests.com/2009/win-money-for-your-favorite-charity-and-an-ipod-nano-at-leeraitocom/

But the reason why I feel as though I should win is because I want to give back to the community as much as anyone else. The charity I would contribute to would be Kiva in which is a micro-lending community for 3rd world businesses.

In essence, Kiva helps the less fortunate with more opportunities than what we have.

Also, if I won the first or second prize, I would hold a contest of my own with the iPod as featured prize. The contest would consist of seeing if and who people have donated to charities in 2008. I will giving back whether it’s 1 penny or 1 million dollars is something and if people have (and show proof) then they deserve to win.

Oh, and I’ve done the Walk for Hunger and have raised money for that. I would walk the 20 miles again and have you as a sponsor… though, that doesn’t happen until May. 😀

And Happy New Year to you and particularly Emma, Hanna and Grace. Don’t worry, I’m only sucking up to the judges a little bit, I’m not bribing them. 😉

Hi, this is Nicola from Italy.

Precisely from Matera, where Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ” and Catherine Hardwicke’s “The Nativity Story” were shot.

Well, we live very far from each other, but Someone up there has made possible to read your blog.
The Emotional Network is stronger than every Internet connection.
Your story has something incredible.
If I win, I will choose a charity which helps poor people.Nowadays there is a lot of people which does not reach the third week with their wage.

I will be very glad to hear your voice and the one of your childrend recorded on the iPod and see a picture of you. I will do the same thing for you.
If you want, I can send you a funny photo of me via mail.
Will I be charged of “corruption” of the judges??? 🙂
Hugs and kisses, Nicola

Hi,
I read some of the entries above and most of them are very heart worming. I don’t know if my comment will pass the bar, but here goes:
A few months ago I entered a contest at Stuffedtech to win an iPod nano. It was a Valentines contest and the nano was pink, so I wanted to win it for my wife. We got dressed up in pink and took a funny picture together (that was the idea for the contest).
After a few weeks I got an email that we won. We waited a few more weeks but it did not come. When talking to the site operator, I was told that our entry was disqualified do to duplicate entries from the same email and that they sent it to the next eligible person. A short time later the site closed.
Ever since I have been trying to find a contest, where I could win an iPod nano for my wife, due to the fact that it’s a bit out of our price range right now.

Best wishes to your family
Regards,
Niv Ben-Porath
