Full Moon

You know there is a full moon near when David Letterman is publicly dealing with extortion over sex scandals, Chicago is in tears over failing to get the 2016 Olympics, and Breast Cancer Awareness month is being over shadowed by Typhoon Pepeng (don’t get me wrong… both deserve attention!)

If you believe Full Moons affect people, then I guess you are NO different than many Police Officers and Emergency Room staff all over the world. http://www.skepdic.com/fullmoon.html

The reality is, that once the statistics of Full Moons are applied to hospital room visits, extortion scandals, typhoons and even breast cancer, it is revealed that a harvest moon or full moon is just any other day of the year. You may have heightened awareness on these days, but statistically it isn’t any more weird than other days of the lunar phase.

No offense if you are Police Officer or Emergency Room doctor.

Never Say Never

Have you ever said, “Never again in my life?”

This past year I have seen so many people break their never agains.

My wife Tanya’s NEVER for years was ‘Sushi’! Now, she loves going as often as possible.

I have seen people change and reunite with family they said they would NEVER see again!

Considering that every 7 years every single cell in our body is replaced, essentially creating a brand new person! It might make sense to consider not speaking for someone else.

In other words…

If you will be a completly different person 7 years from now…

‘Never Say Never’!

Man Can Fly

This continues on with my theme this week of  “Anything Is Possible!”

If you are a thrill seeker who is bored with jumping out of planes… you’ll want to do this!

For everyone else be prepared to hold your breath!

I Can’t

I grew up knowing and have as well forced my children to believe that “I Can’t” is just another swear word.

My daughter’s have still managed to find ways to challenge the belief, by asking, “Is _______ impossible?” in other words, insert time travel, aliens on earth, peace on earth, or any number of seemingly impossibles!

Challenge to your hearts content, but human beings have a strong history of debunking the ‘We Can Not’s’ or ‘That’s Impossible’!

Anything is possible.

Pulled In A Million Directions

In all fairness you literally shouldn’t be reading this.  You see I wrote ‘Pulled In A Million Directions’ a few days back and decided to delete it, because I honestly believed it was too much like a Dear Diary brain dump that would bore people to death. Then earlier today it was pointed out to me that there may be other people going through the same thing, and that my thoughts might resonate or benefit more than just a few readers. I’ll let you decide.

Alrighty then, well I’m currently re-typing this 30, 000 feet in the air. On my way to another part of Canada to bust hump for three days on a ‘business road trip’ which I will enjoy, but at the same time feel the constant heart string pull of missing my wife and daughters back home.

Work & Family; that’s only two directions Lee….

Ok, so see if you resonate with any of my million directions below, all of which I am currently experiencing, living, thinking about or actively trying to avoid clogging my brain waves.

  1. CAREER/FINANCIAL- A high powered career requiring brain draining travel, but fiscally rewarding  in the form of healthy financial commissions.
  2. FAMILY/LOVE- Three beautiful Daddy’s little girls that deserve more of their Fathers time, yet never seem to complain.
  3. LOVE/ROMANCE- A wonderful wife that can get me to play Scrabble, but has hard time getting me to just talk.
  4. POWER/PURPOSE- The family side businesses that grow in my absence, and pull at me mentally.
  5. GUILT/PLEASURE- The pressure of doctors orders to eat healthy low cholesterol food and exercise regularly. The short term pleasure of not following orders.
  6. PEER PRESSURE- The pressure of the business world to conform and especially in a sales environment dress, live & drive for success. We’ll call this one keeping up with the Jones.
  7. CONSCIENCE/SERVICE- The pull of deserving charities, and generally that I should be doing & giving back more.
  8. CAREER -The book full of ‘Great’ business ideas I have yet to find the time to implement.
  9. PASSION- The guitar that calls at me to play and only gets touched a few minutes a week.
  10. CREATIVITY- The 6 other book titles that I really should decide on which one would feed my soul the most, and start writing a MERE page a day. My heart wants to write a second book, but the clock keeps ticking.
  11. DUTY- Paying the bills, maintenance, shopping, helping parents, assisting siblings, etc,

OK, so not quite a million but for the sake of brevity I have stopped at eleven. Is it any wonder in today’s fast paced, commercialized, beautified, and instant gratification driven world that we find ourselves pulled in a million different directions. On any given day we may feel emotionally thinned out like ElastiGirl from the Incredibles, or arms wrapped around a mile of TODO’s like Mr. Fantastic from the Fantastic Four.

So what!

Being pulled in millions of different directions is whose fault?

Is it Tim Berners Lee’s fault for playing a part in creating the modern internet that sucks time from people’s brains? Is it my wife’s fault for blessing me with three gorgeous daughters who love and vie for my attention? Is it my Dad’s fault because he wants to spend time with his son? Is it the airlines fault I’m a thousand miles away from my family?

Of course not!

The one common denominator in every direction I feel pulled in is me, myself & I. If I am feeling pulled in a million different directions, and not enjoying the various pull(s), then I am going to have to spend some time seriously re-evaluating the directions that are less of a need, and really a personal want. E.g. I want to write my second book, but I don’t NEED to right now as  that’s not how I make a living financially.

The solution is simple and complex at the same time.

Say NO more often to personal wants & outside requests.

Say YES to my own personal and family’s needs.

There is no ‘I’ in pull.

Thank You

After several years of blogging there are two words I love to hear, and even more so that I absolutely experience joy saying to other people!

Thank you! AKA thanks, tks or thankyou!!!!

Today, I received my 100th blog comment and two emails from various people thanking me for my help and gosh darn it feels good! What can I say, “I like to help!”

In retrospect, I think I only thanked two people today who helped me… Should have been more!!!!

So a big thanks to all of you who take the time to not only read my infrequent blogging, but a special appreciation to readers who take the time to comment, ask questions or even challenge my point of view!

I’m here to help, so please don’t be a stranger and drop me a line anytime!

How can I help you?

Top 3 Pet Peeve Geek Questions

OK fellow geeks, and good day to the non-geeks who torment us with nightly phone calls!

I may not be an IT specialist, but if you are like me and happen to be remotely good with a computer these days, you quasi de facto become tech support for your parents, siblings, friends and co-workers.

So this post is for all you UNPAID tech support geeks… you know who you are! Feel free to post your best questions in the comments below as I feel your pain.

3.  I don’t know what I clicked but now my screen is sideways and my neck is getting sore?

This one came from my Dad! I couldn’t stop laughing after I walked him though rotating his desktop under his display properties. I love you Dad… but holy cow!

2.  I think I have a virus? I WASN’T looking at those sex websites or anything so I don’t understand how I got it.

Ummm, I will protect the more than one not so innocent people by not naming names, but  too many people apparently don’t have a teenager they can blame.  Two words for you folks -Antivirus Software!!!

1. My computer is sooooo slow and its only a year old?

When asked if they change the oil on the car…yep of course. When is the last time you cleaned up your computer?  (Shaking their head….) If you think that a registry is where you go to select presents for a wedding and defrag is a war term, please, please go buy System Mechanic!

I will post more if they come to me, but I’m sure there are few stories out there that put mine to shame.

Perception is Reality

The last two days have been filled with change, and maybe you are experiencing something similar to millions across the planet; job change, relationship breakdown, change in financial position, etc.

Change like many other things can only be percieved in three ways; bad, neutral or good! But everyone, including myself, seems to often focus in and allow the end emotional result to take over!

Today, I allowed myself to focus on the end emotion as opposed to controlling the end emotion by zeroing in my attention on how I was perceiving the changes!

Maybe you do the same sometimes. Let my mistake the last couple of days be your personal reminder to focus more on how you percieve change.

What we perceive we tend to believe…

If we focus our attention on the good, even if we can only find a sliver of positivity in the change we are experiencing, then we control an exponential amount of the resulting emotion.

Perception is reality!

Urgent Warning About Gardasil (Truth or Fear Mongering)

I have three daughters so this issue is very important to discuss with my family, but when you get emails from friends and family freaking you out that  girls are dying and having adverse affects from a vaccine created  to protect our daughters from cancer… confusion and anger sets in.

Do we trust the medical doctors, the naturopathic doctors, the FDA or do we trust people like Jenny Thompson who is neither?

It  makes you wonder who you can REALLY trust as an information source on the internet these days. I don’t normally post information like this but felt compelled to see what other people think. I’m not vouching PRO or CON the speaker, but below is the video. I would also suggest you look at this article that claims the video is a mixture of accurate and inaccurate information. http://www.snopes.com/medical/drugs/gardasil.asp
